Our Vision

Whakamana me Whānau Whānui

Nurturing Individuals, Building Self-worth, Fostering Community

Our School

We are a small rural school with strong ties to our coastal community. We believe that children need free play, meaningful structured learning, and personal choice to be successful at school.

Our learning programmes are developed to cater to the needs and interests of the children that are currently in the school. Our teachers are dynamic, inspirational people who know the children and their whānau.

We aim for our children to be confident learners who have a strong sense of self-worth and belonging. They develop meaningful connections in the school and the community.

Our children value the unique Māori perspective that is part of our New Zealand heritage while valuing diversity in all its shapes and forms.

Our teaching and learning programmes are underpinned by our strategic plan that is focussed on enhancing the hauora of every learner by meeting their individual needs.

Changes to Tech
20 Apr 2026

Kia ora Y7&8 parents,

I'm getting in touch to let you know about some changes to our Technology classes starting this term.

Maramarua School, our tech provider, recently contacted us to let us know that Ōrere and Kaiaua students will now be heading to tech at the same time as Waitakaruru School.

Term 2 Tech Dates
Tech will now be every second Tuesday. Here are the dates for your fridge or calendar:

  • 28 April (Week 2)
  • 12 May (Week 4)
  • 26 May (Week 6)
  • 9 June (Week 8)
  • 23 June (Week 10)

Bus Route Changes
Because the schools are now travelling together, the bus routes have been merged into one vehicle.

  • Route T030817 is now the main route for everyone.
  • Route T030802 has been discontinued.

These changes kick in as of next week. We know that any shift in routine can be a bit of a hassle, so thanks a lot for your patience and for helping us make sure the kids don’t miss out on their tech sessions.

If you have any questions at all, just let me, Paul or Tiarnah know.

Kind Regards,

Emma Oliver-Harwood
